Scouting Video: Kyle Richter, LHP, Santa Margarita (CA) HS (2010 Draft)

By
May 19, 2010

Kyle Richter should have a chance to develop into a pretty solid three-pitch starter in the coming years. He’s got that change-up of his that has some dive and sink to it, which I expect will be his money pitch. I would have liked to have seen more of this guy than I did this year, but I finally got him where I could reach him.  He’s got enough arm speed. The one adjustment I think will probably need to come along in the future is the ability to more consistently stay on top of the ball. That’s an adjustment an athlete like this should be able to make.

By
February 14, 2010

Dylan Covey continued to show the quantity and quality of stuff that separates him from a strong national crop of high school right-handed starting pitchers, but he wasn’t the only starting pitcher who helped himself Saturday at the Major League Scouting Bureau Southern California Invitational Showcase at the Urban Youth Academy. By

Today concludes our two-part look at the 2009 Angel Elite season with our player summaries. As we mentioned Wednesday, this list does not represent rankings and follows the professional scouting model, where at this time of the year you are simply following players between summer and spring.

Kyle Richter will probably be the most coveted left-handed starting pitching prospect to come from baseball rich Orange County in the 2010 draft. Like his 2009 teammate, outfielder Trayce Thompson, and 2009 standout Tyler Matzek, Richter is one of the next guys off the OC assembly line. Here’s a first look at the left-hander on the bump.

First look: 2010 Draft Prospects (High School pitchers)

By
September 22, 2009

Baseball Beginnings is pleased to unveil our first NATIONAL look at the June 2010 draft here in September, 2009, eight months before the first name is called.

In the scouting world, every quality player is on a follow list. It’s a good bet that most of these players are already on such lists, but it’s important to remember that things will change over the next eight months – no list, no matter this one or one by a team should be considered definitive at this time of year, but should instead be regarded as a road map.

Some players who are not on this list will be hot and others who were hot in summer and fall will lose some luster in spring. That’s why you won’t see rankings here, because Baseball Beginnings works like a major league team. We’re not ranking players right now. And when we do, we keep them in-house. The world is full of people who will rank players. A good scout NEVER tells.

Every single player on this list has been seen by our scouting staff IN PERSON, meaning we don’t take our information from secondary sources. It’s on us.

Covey shines at Angels Elite InterSqaud

By
September 21, 2009

Right-hander Dylan Covey pitched so impressively in his first outing for Angel Elite last Wednesday that one scout quipped, “He broke all our guns.”

Covey was outstanding. He only threw a bullpen at the Area Codes and pitched well at Aflac, but he was better here, specifically because his good curveball was great. (more…)
