Brewster is the first stop on our covering the Cape tour. We’ll have videos as we progress during the season, but the goal of these stories is to identify the better players we saw in person and to provide a synopsis of each player. There is no order, just how they came up as I wrote up my cards.

Anthony Ranaudo is a guy we ventured over the river and through the woods to get a look at. I’m on the record for my thoughts on this guy and I think the video will show why I feel the way I do. What we have here is not a fast-twitcher, in other words, we got average arm speed here that is about to be fast-tracked with a medical history already in his back pocket. Maybe the Red Sox see something I don’t, and if they’re right and I’m wrong, no worries at all, I can live with it. But I can’t see this guy profiling as anything more than a major league grunt who has enough to be there but not enough to stand out. We’ll see what happens.

You can take LSU right-hander Anthony Ranaudo in the first round if you like, but enter into the deal with the expectations that the build up for this guy will not meet expectations at the major league level if he does not address some serious issues immediately. I base these conclusions off a six-inning look at the UCLA Regional, where I was excited to finally see Ranaudo, but disappointed with what I saw.

Your information is only as good as the savvy of your sources. I like what I can relay to my readers here. The quotes here are from a regional source with playing and scouting experience. As I said earlier, these are not my words thinly veiled. I saw a few of these guys last summer on the Cape. (more…)
