Here is a little bit more video of first round draft pick, Alex Meyer. The right-handed pitcher out of Kentucky was chosen with the 23rd overall pick by the Washington Nationals. This is the rest of the video from Spring 2010. You can read my observations in the scouting report and the first half of this video.

George Springer had a pretty good college ball run. The first time I saw him, two summers ago on the Cape, he was just this little thin wiry kid who was very shy and kept to himself. He was coming off a good year, but he was still a little fish in a big pond. When I stood behind the cage and watched him hit, I liked him. The reason? Right-handed power. Loose right-handed power, the best kind. He had very snappy wrists and the ability to wait on a pitch and drive it. He didn’t have much meat on his bones and he could still put a charge in the ball. You could look in the crystal ball and really like him.
I saw him a lot for a guy whose home field is about 3,000 miles away from here. I remember the light-tower BP at Cal State Northridge. And this spring, down at USD, he played well. Really, for Springer, who went 11th overall to the Astros, it’s all about at-bats and experience now. I think he needs a full pro development cycle to get the power out. There is a danger here. I like this boy but I need to see him do some things in pro ball I didn’t see him do consistently as an amateur. (And if you guys in the Astros front office reading this think John Klima is going to tell you what that is for free, come hire me and I’ll tell you.)

Spenser Linney is growing and developing in these clips, and I look forward to seeing his progression in the next few years. I will say that he resembles some successful Pac-10 left-handers I’ve seen in the past few years and I can project him to about what I think he’s going to be. Now, people ask me, well what is he going to be? I say, wait and find out.

Peter O’Brien is a big physical right-handed hitter who you will keep behind the plate and see if you get 20 home runs out of him. I felt he was fairly smooth for such a big guy. Scouting wise, you go body+power+arm+glove = probable first rounder. Bloodlines nice plus.

Elliot Richoux is your classic big-bodied left-handed hitter who flashes raw power. Here’s how he looked when I saw him.

Andrew Gagnon is a pretty solid draft arm as far as these things go. He’s usually 90-92 when I see him and I wonder if he might have a touch more in there if he can trim yet a little bit more fat off his delivery. He’s got the tall right-handed frame you want, which also helps separate him in scouting eyes from other 90-92 right-handers.

Danny Keller is seen here, and the obvious factors are why he’s easy to like — long, lean, loose, good body, physically projectable. But the video doesn’t tell you the whole story.

Johnny Eierman had some pop in this look. He may get to LSU. He may not. I’ve learned never to guess.

Collin Dewell is a left-handed hitting center-fielder from Santa Barbara going to Arizona. I had a quick look at him here and I think he should become an immediate contributor at the college level for his contact abilities, speed and defense.
