This is the end – just random notes on random dudes.
Saw a big article about Jeren Kendall from Wisconsin. Readers here know I root for Wisconsin players. I don’t want my Mom to get pissed off at me if I don’t. But that said, this guy is OK, and he’s going to Vanderbilt. I differ in the major league assessment of him, I don’t see him as a big league regular, but rather a Mike Yaztremski-like little guy Vanderbilt lefty outfielder…Darius Day could absolutely fly, but I don’t see strength to play…Jackson Reetz gets a lot of pub, but I didn’t see the hands to beat the good fastball…Monte Harrison is a two-sport guy who should be a one-sport guy and that one sport plays on Saturday…Braden Webb is another good arm from Owasso who could turn into a big arm or could turn into a typical college right-hander…I really, really, really liked lefty Andrew Summerville, until I found out he was going to Stanford… Marcus Wilson reminded me of a young Gary Mathews. Kevin Padlo will be the sleeper from this team, because he has strong hands and can hit and he severely outperformed Flaherty. Padlo doesn’t know how to lift the ball yet, but he better, because he can create the gunshots, and the arm is baseline big league average at third right now…Nick Valaika can play short and the arm plays, has some strength to play, will be a grinder in pro ball like the rest of the brothers, and might turn out to be the best hitter of the bunch…Tylor Megill had his best look here, 91-93 with sink…Rudy Martin, another lefty who can fly, needs to get stronger…Handsome Monica, greatest name in the history of the Area Codes, looks like a college banger to me…Sean Reid-Foley, looks like a big right-hander with some room to make strikes in the spring, 92 heavy fastball…. Luke Dykstra needs to sign with the first team he fools. My first thought is he’s max-effort in everything he does, but then again, so was his old man. But my real issue is I don’t think he hits…Lots of talk about two-way guy Alex Verdugo. The bat is college, the arm is pro…Kodi Medeiros is a little on the small side, which worries me, but he can spin it and run it up to 93. He’s got to prove he’s strong enough to do what he did for one inning in seven. No showcase can tell us that about anyone…Cadyn Grenier looks like he wants to hit, Latin style, thinks he’s Julio Franco with that big wrap…Jeddediah Fagg is strong, lots of hard contact, solid, simple and sound approach, lays off garbage, runs enough, fields enough and throws enough – and that’s all it takes.
