Scouting Report: Bryan Brickhouse, RHP, The Woodlands (TX) HS (2011 Draft)
By The Baseball Beginnings Guy
November 3, 2010
Bryan Brickhouse comes from Texas, where they grow the big strong high school right-handers by the bushel, so it seems. My conclusion is that I liked this guy and that he has some things to work on in order to become a really top shelf guy. That in no way, shape or form is a dig at the guy, because he does have the chance to be a top-shelfer.
Bryan Brickhouse, RHS
The Woodlands HS, Texas
Games Seen: 2, Innings: 5 (2010 Area Codes)
Wind-up: Semi-wind.
Arm Action: Fair
Arm Angle: ¾
Delivery: Fair
Arm/Delivery Mechanics: Sweeping arm action through back, arm has to catch up to body, delivery comes open 3B side, limits extension and falls off 1B side.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Burly physically matured features with wide, high hips. Broad shoulders, long limbs, strong chest.
STRENGTHS: FB 90-94, comfort zone 91-92, mostly straight with occasional sink and run. Hard slider, 83-85, go-to weapon, hard tilt when stays on top. CB 75-77, shows 12/6 proper rotation when on top.
WEAKNESSES: Needs to stay in mechanics; overthrew instead of letting it come, too many fastballs started up. Correctable mechanical flaws with talent to absorb changes and succeed. Straight CHG 81, lacks feel at this time.
SUMMATION: Strong-bodied young RHS w/chance to become middle-rotation ML starter. Must continue to refine location and repetition. Has the big body and the big arm to get there.

Curveball: 4/5
