Jack Marder, SS
Newbury Park HS
6-1, 180
B/T: R/R
Games 1, Innings 7 (Plus off-day BP and Infield)

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Medium build, long arms and legs.

STRENGTHS: Pure hitter. Inside-out approach, fast hands, balanced swing, strong path to ball, bat head stays in hitting zone, makes solid contact, hits off firm and closed front side, hip rotation through the ball, gets extension after contact. Uses whole field, power is pull and LCF. Average pure speed, above-average base runner. Average defensive range, average arm, moving feet, fast release, accurate arm, fields what he gets to. Above-average baseball intellect.

WEAKNESSES: Must develop more strength and retain body control. Lacks range for SS at advanced levels, could play 2B or 3B. Occasionally shows stiff hands defensively. Power BA now, will improve with strength and age. Would like to see him keep both hands on bat on follow through – minor correction. Should develop more RCF power with age.

SUMMARY: The bat plays. An energetic, loud, smart, hustling baseball rat. Won’t wow you with pure tools, but knows how to play beyond his years. Will be top-level Pac-10 player if he doesn’t sign. Should be regular 2B on a contending club in major leagues. Reminds me of Dustin Pedroia. Good Luck in future.
